This was a commissioned work that was very large. I love to paint flowers (among other things) and find that one doesn't have to use the actual local colors but can experiment with complementary colors in the leaves. So you will notice the purples and yellows among the greens.
Mary Ann Boysen, (440-667-7276) Chagrin Falls watercolorist since 1974, began her career when she moved there by doing sketches of local landmarks. Then she attempted painting in watercolor, which had been her desire since college. After studying with Florian Lawton, Lowell Ellsworth Smith, and numerous other experienced watercolorists from around the country, she blossomed with courage and determination to have this as her medium of choice. Having only studied watercolor for one year and three months, she won Best in Show at Gates Mills in April of 1975.
